Jungle Geometry

These shape-shifting mokuhanga prints were made while I was living in Tokyo, a sprawling metropolis that is densely layered, infinitely complex and, for a newcomer, deeply disorienting.

Re-Order

Collaborative works made with graphic design and fine art studio, Berger & Föhr.

24 Hours of Lemons

The 24 Hours of Lemons is an endurance race for cars that cost less than $500. The two-day event is a self-proclaimed "breeding ground for morons, where a Pinto and a Maserati battle to lap a Le Car" and is a hilarious mix of NASCAR, MacGyver, Burning Man, and The Salvation Army.

Air Show

The aviation history and technology on display in Dayton, Ohio made me feel fortunate to live in the United States. Working on these images, I found myself wanting to soften and declaw them — and to make these frightening pieces of warcraft feel more like their harmless two-wheeled ancestor: the bicycle.

Alpine Modern

These works explore the human relationship to the alpine landscape. These images are composed using the Golden Mean, a recurring ratio found in nature.

Ascension

Progressive, chronological landscape composites composed of elements collected during point-to-point travel through and over alpine terrain between Aspen and Crested Butte.

China

Before I left for my first visit to China, a friend told me that it would change my life. After a few days there, I started to understand what he meant.

Down the Rhein

The Rhine River has long been the location of disagreement, conflict, and war. It is also the subject of one of the most expensive photographs ever sold. That photograph, by Andreas Gursky, was formative for me as a younger photographer.

2018

Down the Rhein II

Using photographs I shot between Basel and Amsterdam, I made five images about a river in conflict, starting with an image of a BASF factory and the color indigo.

Hunting & Gathering

There are photographs waiting to be made everywhere. Sometimes I just grab my camera and head out in the car or on my bike with no real plan for where I’m going or what I’m going to shoot. These images are the result of that process.

Instacolor

Inspired by the instant gratification of the iconic but nearly extinct Polaroid, these heavily filtered, extensively pixelated images are a snapshot of our current culture of quick, customizable convenience.

2016 - Present

Lucky Flag

Known as “Hinomaru Yosegaki” in Japanese, the Good Luck Flag was a traditional gift given to soldiers during wartime. Friends and family would write short messages on a Japanese flag wishing a soldier safety, victory, and good luck.

Monoprints

Handmade one-of-a-kind works with water-based inks on Arches paper.

Post Surf

Images from an altered state.

Rabbit Hole

An open visual exploration of the Golden Ratio in relation to conspiracy theory.

Spellwork

Certain words, when used regularly with discipline and intention, have the power to change our actions. Subsequently, they can give us control over our habits, our destiny, and ultimately change who we are. These pieces are daily reminders of this small but transformative routine.

Taipei Telecom

I wish I knew more about these boxes that are scattered around downtown Taipei. Possibly an invitation into a brief, daydreamy escape from the wired urban jungle to somewhere beautiful — maybe even a place without phone service.

The Distance Between

One summer I spent five days riding my bike 500 miles from Kansas City to Chicago. Every two hours I would stop to rest and take a few minutes to photograph what I saw.

The Divide

Two raindrops land inches from each other on a high mountain ridge. One drop travels to the Pacific Ocean, the other to the Atlantic. The Continental Divide is an unwavering wedge that drives two similar things thousands of miles apart.
