Rabbit Hole
In mathematics, two quantities are in the Golden Ratio if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two quantities. Known to mathematicians as “phi” or “Φ” the result of this ratio is a number that starts with 1.618033988749895...and goes on forever. Some believe that Φ provides a sort of mystical blueprint for much of the natural world. Others are committed to debunking what they consider a mythical conspiracy theory supported by convenient examples and bad science.
Conspiracy theories exist because they help to explain the unexplainable. They provide comfort and security in the face of chaos and uncertainty. Our current techno-social-political system is one that has evolved to efficiently coax people into ideological rabbit holes, only to be pushed deeper into those holes by an always-optimizing algorithmic polarization.
